Come To The Table

Bible Reading: Isaiah 25:6-10 In Jerusalem, the LORD of Heaven’s Armies will spread a wonderful feast for all the people of the world. It will be a delicious banquet with clear, well-aged win and choice meat.

There he will remove the cloud of gloom, the shadow of death that hangs over the earth. He will swallow death forever! The Sovereign LORD will wipe away all tears. He will remove forever all insults and mockery against the land and people. The LORD has spoken.

In that day the people will proclaim, “This is our God! We trusted in him, and he saved us! This is the LORD, in whom we trusted. Let us rejoice in the salvation he brings!” For the LORD’s hand of blessing will rest on Jerusalem.

The Old Testament prophets spoke of the day when God would one day reign in his fullness and they depicted a great feast. The prophet Isaiah spoke of a coming day when Jesus would prepare “a feast of rich food for all peoples, a banquet of aged wine—the best of meats and the finest of wines”. In that day all that is wrong is made right and all that is broken is made whole, and those in Christ will be invited to an extravagant meal!

Jesus told a story in Luke, Chapter 14. He said: “A man prepared a great feast and sent out many invitations. When the banquet was ready, he sent his servant to tell the guests, ‘Come, the banquet is ready.’ But they all began making excuses. One said, "‘I have just bought a field and must inspect it. Please excuse me.’ Another said, ‘I have just bought five pairs of oxen, and want to try them out. Please excuse me.’ And another said, ‘I just got married, so I can’t come.’

“The servant returned and told his master what they had said. His master was furious and said, ‘Go quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and invite the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame.’ After the servant had done this, he reported, ‘There is still room for more.’ So his master said, ‘Go out into the country lanes and behind the hedges and urge anyone you find to come, so that the house will be full. For none of those I first invited will get even the smallest taste from my banquet.’”

The master of the house is God, and the great banquet is the kingdom of God (heaven). The people made excuses for not wanting to be at the banquet (bad excuses at that). The invitation to come to the banquet was then extended to the downtrodden, underprivedged, or unnoticed. Everyone - no matter your social status, economic status or education status is invited to the the dinner table. But God is not happy that the table is half full - he desires that everyone come. His invitation for salvation is open to ALL. He is not willing that any perish but all come to receive salvation in Jesus Christ. However, it is VERY CLEAR that those who continue to refuse the invitation chose their own fate and punishment. They missed out. Those who do not choose Christ will never taste the joys and splendor of heaven. That is very clear!

The Kingdom of God is open to everyone, but not everyone will choose to accept the invitation. How about you? Have you said YES to the invitation of Christ? OR Are you still making excuses? Your future is your decision…. Christ’s table is open to you…. What’s your answer going to be??

God Is God - There Is No Other

Bible Reading: Matthew 6:24 No one can serve two masters. For you will hate the one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other.

The Bible instructs us that we can only serve one master. We even see this in the garden of Eden. The Word tells us that Adam and Eve walked and talked with God each day in the cool of the garden. They had communion with him and he was their master. However, when the serpent used his clever techniques to lull Eve away - her master became the serpent. She no longer stayed loyal to God and she fell.

Satan uses all kinds of things to lull us away from God today. He does his SAME OLD TRICKS. He uses power, money, jealousy, greed, selfishness, and much more to entice us away from Jesus. We are warned that we can only serve ONE master. We will serve ONE - fully and completely.

There is ONE God and He is God in heaven above and earth beneath. Decide TODAY in your heart that He is YOUR ONE and ONLY. Don’t allow yourself to be distracted away by the cares of this world. We are living in a passing world - this world will fade away like a flower fades in the autumn and dies in the winter. But our spiritual being will live on forever and ever. Don’t jeopardize your future with the things of this world. Stay true to Jesus. Make him Lord of your life now and forevermore!

God's Prescription For You

BIBLE READING: Proverbs 4:20-22 My Son, give attention to My Words; Incline your ear to my sayings.  Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh.

This is one of my favorite scriptures.  It speaks so much to me and reminds me personally to stay in the Word of God.   I know I may at times sound like a 'broken record' encouraging everyone to be in God's Word --- the reason I say this is revealed inside this scripture:

  • Give attention to My Words: Our mind is to be focused on the Word. We are to give God's Word first importance and top priority in our life.

  • Incline your ear to My sayings: LISTEN to what the Word says. God will speak to us through His Word but He will also speak to our hearts, or even through another person.

  • Do not let them (God's Word) depart from your eyes: Many times we fail because we see ourselves the way others do. Do you see yourself the way the doctor does, the way your husband does, the way people do --- OR do you see yourself the way God does? Let God's word be true and everything else a lie! (Romans 3:4). How can we see ourselves the way God does? --- by keeping our eyes on the word of God – day, after day, after day. That means we won’t look at the symptoms, or the condition, or the problem because that will get our mind off of what God word says --- will see ourselves totally and completely the way God does!

  • Keep them (God's Word) in the midst of your heart: How do we let God’s word penetrate deep into our heart? We think on scripture ALL DAY LONG - whisper it or speak it to yourself, think on it, ponder it – chew on it – eat on it – feed on it -- like Joshua 1:8 says “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.”

  • For they (My Words) are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh. The Hebrew word for health here is also the word for medicine – in other words --- my words are life to those that find them, and (medicine) to all their flesh!

THEN when you follow God's prescription - the medicine (His Word) will bring LIFE and HEALTH and HEALING to your whole body.  Now this is a prescription that we cannot afford to skip!

God's Prescription:

Pay attention to My Words; Listen carefully to my words; Don't lose sight of them. Let them penetrate into your heart DAILY.

His Eye Is On The Sparrow - I Know He Watches Me

Bible Reading: Matthew 6: 25-27 Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?  Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?  Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

Early in the spring of 1905, Civilla D. Martin and her husband were visiting Christian friends Mr. and Mrs. Dolittle. Mrs. Dolittle had been bedridden for nearly 20 years. Her husband was also a cripple confined to a wheelchair. Despite their great afflictions, they lived happy Christian lives, bringing inspiration and comfort to those who knew them. During their visit Mrs. Martin’s husband commented on how bright and hopeful the Doolittle’s were. He asked their “secret” to staying cheerful. Mrs. Doolittle replied, “His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.” This beautiful expression of faith gripped the Martin’s hearts and later became the writings for the Hymn “His Eye Is On The Sparrow”.

(Cvilla D. Martin, 1905)

Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heaven and home,
When Jesus is my portion? My constant friend is He:
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

I sing because I’m happy,
I sing because I’m free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

Matthew 10:29 Aren’t two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father’s consent. But even the hairs of your head have all been counted. Don’t be afraid therefore; you are worth more than many sparrows.

No matter what place you find yourself in today - know that Jesus is near. The Word of God tells us he knows how many hairs are on your head. Repeat this: I will not be afraid. Jesus is my portion. He is my constant friend. His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me.

Thank you Lord Jesus for watching me!

No Fear Of Death

Bible Reading: John 11:25-26 Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?

Thanatophobia, or fear of death, is a relatively complicated phobia. Many people are afraid of dying. Some people fear being dead, while others are afraid of the actual act of dying. For some this fear is so strong that it affects your daily life.

For the Christian there needs to be NO FEAR of death. The Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 15 that our dying physical bodies cannot inherit the kingdom of God. They cannot inherit what will last forever!

The wonderful secret is: WE WILL NOT DIE BUT BE TRANSFORMED! It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown. When the trumpet sounds those who have died will be RAISED TO LIVE FOREVER. And those who are living at the time will also be TRANSFORMED. Our physical bodies will be transformed into bodies that will NEVER DIE.

Through Jesus Christ we are given VICTORY over sin and death. So - be strong and immoveable. VICTORY is yours, LIFE is yours, you are a CHILD OF THE KING. Hallelujah & Amen!

Oh death, where is your victory?

O death, where is your sting? 1 Corinthians 15:55
