Are You Hungry?

READ:  Psalm 1:1-3 Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers.

But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.

We don't let ourselves go physically hungry very long, do we?  Personally when I get hungry, my body moves into a low insulin type of reaction and I get weak, shaky, sweaty, and extremely nauseous and it hits me FAST.  REAL FAST!    I actually carry snack bars with me for when I get that way.   I've asked my husband (who is a physician) what would happen if I was in a place where I had no protein with me and he explains that I may pass out but not die - my body would readjust itself.    ----------------     But you know what?  I get spiritually hungry too.    I do.   I can tell when it happens too.  Maybe I've been "too busy" or you know "life happens" and I don't get to pick up the Bible for a few days or listen to my favorite pastors,  and wham..... I'm weak, my faith becomes shaky, I'm walking around with worry and fear.  What do I do?  I pull out the Word of God and get back to feeding myself.  If I wouldn't do this.... I would go back to the way of the world and starve.

As human beings we have things that bring us delight.  It might be attending a ball game, movie or concert, enjoying nature, the ocean, reading, or being with family.  It's true - there are many things that 'delight us' and because we all differ so much in our interests, what brings delight to one - maybe completely different to another.

As Christians, however, the Word of God tells us that meditating on God's Word (or speaking it over and over to yourself, thinking/pondering it) - should bring you delight or great pleasure.  We are told in Psalm 1 that when we find delight in the Word of God, we are like trees that are planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit and prospering in each season.

The church today is experiencing a famine - it’s a famine of the Word of God. (Quote by: Pastor Michael Yeager)

Ask yourself:   "Am I finding delight in meditating on the Word of God?"    Do I want to reach for the Word quicker than I reach for a novel or book?      Am I filled with faith or am I starving spiritually?

We are told in Psalms 1 that when we find delight in the Word of God, that we are like trees that are planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit and prospering in each season.   You want to be prosperous in all that you do ----  reach for the Word of God!!

Dear God - help me to be hungry for more of You and more of Your Word.  Give me a thirst and a hunger for you that is so deep that from this day forward I feed myself from Your Word each day.   In Jesus Name, Amen.
