You Are The Salt Of The Earth

READ:  Matthew 5:13  You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned?  It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.

I have a confession to make - I LOVE SALT!   I don't just mean a little. I love it a lot! I'm what you would call a salt-a-holic.   When I eat pretzels - I secretly sneak my fingers to the very bottom of the bag to get extra salt and let it melt in my mouth.     In defense of my actions, I do believe that my body requires this much salt, because if I try to eat less - I get very weak and my blood pressure runs low.

Jesus talked about salt in Matthew chapter five.  He said that "believers are the SALT of the earth".

Salt is used for FLAVOR - As a believer in Christ Jesus you add a distinct ingredient to the earth.   That ingredient that you add makes the earth better!      Believers add FAITH, HOPE, and LOVE to the earth.

Salt is used for PRESERVATION - As a believer in Christ Jesus you keep the earth alive.   Many times I have thought humanity has gone so far that it's an awful world to live in, and then I see an act of kindness by a follower of Christ and my faith in humanity is restored.   Believers give love, carry faith, hope, and determination in a way that keeps the earth alive with Christ.

Salt is used as a CLEANSING AGENT - As a believer in Christ Jesus you are to be a "cleanser" to the world. This means you are to make the would a brighter, more purified place.

If salt loses its flavor, it is good for nothing!

Jesus warned that when salt loses it's flavor it is good for nothing.  Salt can lose it's flavor when moisture gets to it.   In the believer's life - we can lose our saltiness or our "testimony" if we mingle with the ways of the world.   It's hard to have a testimony for Christ if we don't live any differently than the world.

How does your life taste? - As you look over the last few months or the last year - Is your Christian life salty or is some of the flavor dissipating?

"Therefore, salt is good; but if even salt has become tasteless, with what will it be seasoned? "It is useless either for the soil or for the manure pile; it is thrown out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear." Luke 14:34-35.

Dear Jesus, help me to be SALT to the world around me.  Help me to stay focused on living for You and bringing others to You through my example and my life.
