READ: Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Have you ever met someone who just seems happy all-the-time? To look at them you would think their life was perfect because they just beam happiness. I think some people are naturally this way. I don't feel like I am one of those people. I mean I love to laugh with my family and we joke around and get silly a lot, but to be honest, when I'm alone.... I'm not smiley and giddy. I'm more serious, thoughtful, and deep in my thoughts and attitudes.
In the past I wondered if that meant I wasn't joyful? And I often desired to be so. But through time I've realized that being joyful is not "feeling happy all the time" or "acting giddy". Instead JOY is:
- When I know that my God will take care of me.
- When I realize that I have the authority of Christ and am not defeated by the woes of life or the darts of satan.
- When I determine to praise God in every situation.
We walk this thing called LIFE that has ups and downs, victories and defeats, great happiness and disappointments, and because life can at times seem like a roller coaster we never know from one day to the next if happiness will be present. What we can know is if JOY will be. True JOY is trusting Jesus to care for us, knowing who we are in Him, and determining to praise Him always! This definition makes me a joyous person after all!
One of my favorite songs right now is "Old Church Choir" by Zach Williams. Go ahead and listen to it. I promise it will naturally make you joyful today!
