Don't Go To Bed Angry

READ: Ephesians 4:26-27 Don't sin by letting anger control you.  Don't let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil.

Have you ever heard the saying "Don't Go To Bed Angry?"   This advise is often given to newlyweds as a tip to make their marriage better.   This isn't just a cliche.  It is actually sound Biblical teaching that Paul shares with us in Ephesians.   We are told by Paul not to let the darkness fall or the sun go down and still be angry.  FORGIVE while it's still the same day.... don't hold the anger or grudge and let it fester overnight because then it can smell REALLY BAD!

Paul even goes one step further in his teaching... he actually gives us one of the ways that the devil can gain ground on you.  This is by holding onto your anger.  Holding on to anger actually gives satan a foothold.  We don't use that word too much - but foothold means "a secure position from which further progress may be made."    We know that satan "prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour" (1 Peter 5:8), but holding onto anger actually gives him a more secure position to make progress or inroads into your life.  Holding onto anger is much like sending satan and invitation to come and have his way with you.

Are you holding onto anger today?    We all have days where things don't go right or people just rub us the wrong way.  Maybe its a day where we just got out of bed 'on the wrong side', or maybe you had a disagreement with your spouse or child and you are still holding onto anger.

Human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires, James 1:20

As a child of God it is important to learn to let go of anger and to do it IMMEDIATELY.   The longer you hang onto it - the more you giving satan an invitation into your life.   Ask Jesus to help you with anger when it arises --- He is faithful and He will help you if you ask Him.
