READ: Luke 15:1-7 Then all the tax collectors and the sinners drew near to Him to hear Him. And the Pharisees and scribes complained, saying, “This Man receives sinners and eats with them.” So He spoke this parable to them, saying:
“What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’ I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.
Remember high school? In high school there always seemed to be little "cliques of friends". There were the sport kids, the cheerleaders, the band kids, the studious kids, and the party kids. I played sports in high school - so many would have said that I was in that clique, but I was really drawn to the kids who didn't fit in to any clique. My heart went out for the ones who were all alone. I remember sitting at lunch my senior year with a girl who was a sophomore and had one brown eye and one blue. She was made fun of for this uniqueness and I became her friend.
I love the parable of the lost sheep. In this parable Jesus tells the story of a man who has 100 sheep and he loses one of them. He doesn't sit back continuing to take care of the 99, being happy that he has most of them. No - he lets the 99 there in the wilderness and GOES AFTER the one who is lost. When he finds the one - he rejoices!!!
In this parable we can see that Jesus has a deep love for the one who isn't "in his group" yet. He is willing to "go after them" - and pursue them until he finds them and they are His.
Do you know that if you don't belong in the Family of Jesus yet - that Jesus is actively pursuing you. He loves you and because of this great love - He will go after you.
Remember if you are a part of the family of Jesus - He wants you to help Him in the pursuit of the ONES that He gave His life for. You are the hands and feet of Jesus - help Him in this pursuit. Be obedient today to what He is asking you to do to love the ones who don't fit in quite yet.
