Forgetting Your Past

READ:  Philippians 3:13-14 Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

We all have made mistakes.  We can look back and say, "I wish I never did that!"   OR "I should have taken a different path."      We can't change our past - it is BEHIND US and OVER WITH.    Dwelling in the past - won't change it.    Crying over the past  - won't fix it.   It's OVER, DONE, CAPUT!

Paul tells us what to do - he says,  "FORGETTING WHAT LIES BEHIND and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Jesus Christ!"

But what does this mean exactly?   --- it means that we make a DECISION to NOT let our past take our attention from the present OR hinder our moving forward in the future.   Maybe you made mistakes in the past - maybe even this past year, but a new year is before us and we need to be READY to put all of our focus on what God has in store for us THIS YEAR.

Isaiah 43:18 “But forget all that–it is nothing compared to what I am going to do.”

The devil will do his best to try to remind you of past failures and mistakes - but looking back only makes it more difficult to look forward.    You have to LOOK in the direction that you are walking.     God is ahead - He is your future.  Put your trust in Him!
