READ: Luke 15:11-24 To illustrate the point further, Jesus told them this story: “A man had two sons. The younger son told his father, ‘I want my share of your estate now before you die.’ So his father agreed to divide his wealth between his sons.“A few days later this younger son packed all his belongings and moved to a distant land, and there he wasted all his money in wild living. About the time his money ran out, a great famine swept over the land, and he began to starve. He persuaded a local farmer to hire him, and the man sent him into his fields to feed the pigs. The young man became so hungry that even the pods he was feeding the pigs looked good to him. But no one gave him anything.
“When he finally came to his senses, he said to himself, ‘At home even the hired servants have food enough to spare, and here I am dying of hunger! I will go home to my father and say, “Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son. Please take me on as a hired servant.”’
“So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him. His son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son.’
“But his father said to the servants, ‘Quick! Bring the finest robe in the house and put it on him. Get a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet. And kill the calf we have been fattening. We must celebrate with a feast, for this son of mine was dead and has now returned to life. He was lost, but now he is found.’
This scripture was a parable that Jesus was telling his disciples. It's about a young man who wanted his share of his father's inheritance. He wanted it early - before his father died. So his father gave him his share and the son left and spent the money on 'wild living'. When this son had hit rock bottom, even desiring to eat the feed the pigs were eating, he decided to go back to his father and ask for him to take him back as only a hired servant.
However, his father saw him coming and RAN TO HIM. That part always gets me - THE FATHER RAN TO HIM. This means that the Father was "LOOKING FOR HIM TO RETURN or WAITING FOR HIM". The father said to his servants, "Quick! Bring the finest robe in the house and put it on him. Get a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet. And kill the calf we have been fattening. We must celebrate with a feast, for this son of mine was dead and has now returned to life. He was lost, but now he is found."
Do you know that is how the FATHER feels when one of his children repents and turns back to Him. Maybe that is you... maybe you used to walk with God. Maybe you even went to church, read the word, taught Sunday School. Maybe you were taken to church as a young child or teenager, but things changed and you made some choices that pulled you away from Him. You know, even as you read this, you know that this devotion is speaking to you. Do you know that if you take ONE STEP in your heavenly Father's direction - ONE STEP OF REPENTANCE - He will come running to you! His arms are wide open to take you back.
What are you waiting for? There is NO BETTER place to be than part of the Father's family. If you have strayed away - - it is time to come back home. He's ready to run to you - arms open wide to embrace you back.
Dear Jesus, I have made decisions that have led me away from you. I walked away from your will and your way for my life. I have been making my own decisions and going my own way and it is not working. I want to come back to you TODAY. Please forgive me for my sins. Help me to get back to walking with you and letting you lead me. I love you Jesus - please forgive me and help me. Amen & Amen.
