Read: The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still. Exodus 14:14
What does it mean to "Be Still"? In Hebrew the word still means, 'to slacken, let down or cease'. Taking into considering the Hebrew meaning - Be Still means to stop our activity, relax and let God take over.
I am reminded of the story of the two sisters in Luke, chapter 11. Mary and Martha both loved the Lord. They were welcoming him into their home. Mary sat contently at the feet of Jesus listening to what he taught. BUT Martha was distracted making a big dinner she was preparing. She came to the Lord and said, "Lord, it seems unfair that my sister just sits here while I do all the work. Please tell her to help me". Seems like a reasonable request. I know when I'm busy working in the kitchen to prepare a large meal - I would be irritated if someone just sat around instead of helping. But the Lord said to Martha, "My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her."
Mary had discovered that still time with Jesus was enough. It was all she needed. Sometimes I think in this busy world that we live in - we forget that Jesus is ALL we need. We think we have to do everything, accomplish everything, and always be striving for greater things - but sometimes the fight is not ours, but His.
