Read: Matthew 7:24-27
"Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won't collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn't obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash."
Maybe it's a lost job, troubled relationship, child who has gone astray, or health has deteriorated - since we live in a fallen world, troubles are sure to find us. At times they seem like too much to handle. As Christians we are not promised a life on Easy Street. On the contrary we are told by Jesus himself in John 16:33, "Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world." We, like anyone else, are guaranteed problems - it's just a matter of life here on earth. However, the word of God tells us there is two ways to build our lives:
- We can build them on SAND - and when the storms come crashing down - we WILL collapse.
- We can build them on ROCK - and when the storms come we WILL NOT collapse.
What is this ROCK we can build upon?
Jesus is the precious cornerstone. He is the one we must build our lives upon. When we are rooted and grounded in Him and His Word - we will not come crashing down!
"For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ", 1 Corinthians 3:11.
