Read: Matthew 7:7-11
Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.
You parents - if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.
Who doesn't love to receive a good gift? When I was a little girl, I remember that one particular Christmas all I wanted was a monkey. Not a real monkey, but a stuffed one. I asked for one over and over. My parents tell the story of how they looked high and low, all over the place, for a monkey! The only one they could find was a green one, with white plastic sneakers, and two hands - one of which held a banana. Out of desperation because Christmas Eve was coming quick, they purchased the green monkey from Kmart. I'm sure they didn't know how much I would love that thing! It became my best friend. When I sucked my thumb, the monkey did too. When I chewed gum, I shared it with the monkey. I carried that thing around until his shoes were falling off and mom had to sew them back on several times.
Notice that I asked for the monkey OVER and OVER. Jesus tells the story in Luke, chapter 11: "Suppose you went to a friend's house at midnight, wanting to borrow three loaves of bread. You say to him, 'A friend of mine has just arrived for a visit, and I have nothing for him to eat.' And suppose he calls out from his bedroom, 'Don't bother me. The door is locked for the night, and my family and I are all in bed. I can't help you.' But I tell you this --- though he won't do it for friendship's sake, if you keep knocking long enough, he will get up and give you whatever you need because of your shameless persistence."
If there is something that you NEED from the Lord - petition Him for it. God delights in the persistant prayer of faith. He delights in giving good things to His children who are seeking Him with all of their heart (SEEKING HIM WITH ALL YOUR HEART IS THE KEY). He loves to open the door and give you want you ask.
