Be Careful What You Say

READ:   Mark 11:12-14 "The next morning as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry.  He noticed a fig tree in full leaf a little way off, so he went over to see if he could find any figs.  But there were only leaves because it was too early in the season for fruit.  Then Jesus said to the tree, "May no one ever eat your fruit again!" And the disciples heard him say it."

Mark 11:20-23 "The next morning as they passed by the fig tree he had cursed, the disciples noticed it had withered from the roots up.  Peter remembered what Jesus had said to the tree on the previous day and exclaimed, "Look, Rabbi! The fig tree you cursed has withered and died!"

Then Jesus said to the disciples, "Have faith in God.  I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, 'May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,' and it will happen.  But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart."

In this scripture we see Jesus demonstrating how there is power in what you say!    Jesus was hungry.   He came upon a fig tree but there were no figs to eat (the season was not right for figs).    He cursed the tree - by saying something negative to it.    The Bible tells us that the next morning the disciples noticed that the fig tree had withered from the roots.

Just as Jesus showed us in this scripture - there is power in the words that we say.  If it's flu season and you say, "I'll probably get sick" - you probably will.   If you say, "I'll fail this class" - you probably will.  If you say, "I can't do it right" - you probably won't be able to.     It's much more than just speaking confidence or mind of matter.    The Word of God tells us:

The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit, Proverbs 18:21.

Listen to what you say today - what you speak out is what is in your heart.   "But the words you speak come from the heart - that's what defiles you", Matthew 15:18.    What are you speaking - choose to SPEAK LIFE.
