Read: John 1:43-50 The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, "Come, follow me." Philip was from Bethsaida, Andrew and Peter's hometown. Philip went to look for Nathanael and told him, "We have found the very person Moses and the prophets wrote about! His name is Jesus, the son of Joseph from Nazareth."
"Nazareth!", exclaimed Nathanael. "Can anything good come from Nazareth?"
"Come and see for yourself," Philip replied.
As they approached, Jesus said, "Now here is a genuine son of Israel - a man of complete integrity."
"How do you know about me?" Nathanael asked.
Jesus replied, "I could see you under the fig tree before Philip found you."
Then Nathanael exclaimed, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God - the King of Israel!" Jesus asked him, "Do you believe this just because I told you I had seen you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than this."
In today scripture reading, we see Jesus gathering his disciples. Jesus made a statement about Nathanael, and Nathanael wondered how he could know about him. Jesus replied, "I could see you under the fig tree before Philip found you."
Have you stopped to wonder, what Nathanael was doing under the fig tree. Devout Easterners are still accustomed to having a special place for prayer, so this very well may have been a time where Nathanael was resting under the shade of a tree praying.
No matter what Nathanael was actually doing under the fig tree, we are certain of the fact that what Jesus said to him - touched him. It touched him enough for him to believe that he was indeed the Son of God and follow him.
This shows us the Jesus truly KNEW Nathanael. He knew his innermost thoughts and feelings and he knew that he was a man of integrity (honest with strong principles).
Do you realize that Jesus knows you too? He knows what's in your heart. He knows what you are thinking? He knows your fears? He knows what makes you happy and sad. He knows what drives you to be YOU. He knows your dreams. He even knows what your future holds. Pretty amazing! Yes - the God holds the universe in His hands KNOWS YOU!
That very thought fills me with amazement. Just think - He is not too busy to care about the smallest details about YOU.
This same God died for you. He paid a horrific price on the cross for your sins. He wants to spend eternity with YOU. That will only be possible when you accept Him as YOUR SAVIOR. If you haven't asked Jesus into your heart - you can right now - with a simple prayer from your heart to Him (by the way.... He already knows what's in your heart).
If you are already assured that you are HIS CHILD - thank Him for this today and spend today sharing Jesus with someone who doesn't know Him.
