Read: Proverbs 16:1, 3 We can make our own plans, but the LORD gives the right answer. Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.
We make plans all the time, don't we? We plan where we will go to school, what career we will take, when we will get married, have children, vacation, retire, etc. Our lives it seems are about making plans and we get good at it.... we like to be IN CONTROL.
I know for me, I really like to be in control. I have a 17-year-old son, and I don't like to drive with him. We were talking and he doesn't like to drive with me either. We have come to the conclusion that we both like to be IN CONTROL.
Our Bible passage for today, reminds us in the wisdom book of Proverbs - to commit our plans onto the Lord. I have to stop and ask myself, how many times do I consult the Lord before I act?
Recently we bought my son a car. We trusted the person that we bought it from and took his word for it that it was a good car. We never took the time to take it to a mechanic to have it looked over. More importantly, we bought it so fast, that unlike our other vehicles we purchased, I do not remember asking God what he thought about the purchase of that vehicle. Do you know what? It was NOT a good purchase! It was a mistake.
It might seem small to ask God before purchasing things - but I believe that is exactly what we are to do. We should consult him before we make plans for anything.
Commit to begin today discussing your plans with the Lord. Ask him what you are to do (about everything) before you do it!
