Read: Matthew 8:1-3
Large crowds followed Jesus as he came down the mountainside. Suddenly, a man with leprosy approached him and knelt before him. "Lord," the man said,"if you are willing, you can help me and make me clean."
Jesus reached out and touched him. "I am willing," he said. "Be healed!" And instantly the leprosy disappeared.
Leprosy is an infectious disease that causes severe, disfiguring sores on the skin and painful nerve damage. It can affect the arms, legs, and skin. In Bible days, they did not have antibiotics so leprosy could not be cured. Today, with the use of long-term antibiotics it can be. However, the resulting nerve damage is often times ongoing.
When one had leprosy in Bible days, there was a negative stigma that went along with it and people were shunned and turned to outcasts. No one would dare to touch someone with this disease for fear of getting the disease themselves.
We read in Matthew, chapter 8 of a man who had leprosy that came to Jesus. The Bible tells us the man knelt at the feet of Jesus. He knew that IF Jesus was willing - that HE had the POWER and AUTHORITY to heal him. Jesus responded by reaching out, "touching him", and declaring "I AM WILLING - BE HEALED". The Bible tells us that he was instantly healed of this disease!
Jesus is saying to you today:
Whatever you are suffering with - bring it to Jesus. Kneel before Him and give it to Him. He is saying to you - "I am willing, be healed"!
