READ: Luke 6:22-23 What blessings await you when people hate you and exclude you and mock you and curse you as evil because you follow the Son of Man. When that happens, be happy! Yes, leap for joy! For a great reward awaits you in heaven."
Have you ever had someone curse you, mock you, and dislike you because you were a follower of Christ? I have. I can clearly remember the pain and hurt that I felt when that happened. If that has happened to you - you understand this. However, as Christians we cannot let the pain of that hinder our walk with the Lord Jesus. When someone ridicules you or dislikes you because you are a Child of God - we are told in scripture that a great reward awaits us in heaven.
The mistreatment that we experience because we are a child of God does not go unnoticed by Him. Someday, you will receive your reward. But in the meantime, when this happens, we can't let it defeat us - there is too much work to be done for the Kingdom and too little time to do it! Brush it off - and realize that the retaliation against you as a Child of God is simply because that person doesn't know HIM. They are a child of satan. Pray for this person - even harder than before.
In Matthew 5:38-40 Jesus is telling us how to handle things when someone mistreats us. But it might not be what we have in mind!
“You have heard the law that says the punishment must match the injury: ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I say, do not resist an evil person! If someone slaps you on the right cheek, offer the other cheek also. If you are sued in court and your shirt is taken from you, give your coat, too."
Jesus is telling us not to get hurt and get even. Forgiveness in LOVE is the best answer! If you have been hurt by someone due to your walk with Christ .... love them, love them, and love them some more! You may just love them right into the Family of God! <3
Dear Jesus - please forgive me for feeling hurt when ________ (name of person) hurt me. I know they were just rebelling against you because they are not yet your child. Help me to continue to show them LOVE and FORGIVENESS. Help me to show them YOU. In Jesus' Name.... Amen.
