READ: Luke 9:1-2 One day Jesus called together his twelve disciples and gave them power and authority to cast out all demons and to heal all diseases. Then he sent them out to tell everyone about the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick.
READ: Luke 10:1, 8-9 The Lord now chose seventy-two other disciples and sent them ahead in pairs to all the towns and places he planned to visit. If you enter a town and it welcomes you, eat whatever is set before you. Heal the sick, and tell them, 'The Kingdom of God is near you know.'
Healing was important to Jesus. He didn't teach healing - He lived healing. The Bible tells us that he gathered together his 12 disciples and gave them power and authority to cast out demons and heal ALL diseases. Later he chose 72 more disciples and told them to go and heal the sick. But the authority to heal wasn't just given to 84 people. It was given to us too! Just before Jesus was taking into heaven (where he sits today at the right hand of the Father) He gave this commission to us:
These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages. They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won't hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed. Mark 16:17-18
That's right - if you are a BELIEVER in Jesus then you have the same authority to go and heal the sick. Sometimes we think it takes a special person but it only takes a believer. The church today should be about the business of destroying sickness on earth.
James 5:14 says, "Are any of your sick?" You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven." This was a very important question that James was asking to the church-- he was asking "Are any of you sick?" If he had to ask this question, it means that there really weren't many. Today our question to the church is, "Are any of you well?"
Lets not be afraid to stand up and take our authority against satan who is firing those darts at our health. Let's fight for our friends and our family and stand our ground. Jesus died for us - yes for our salvation, but he also died for our healing. 1 Peter 2:24, "He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed". Sometimes we forget the second part of this scripture. We can claim healing over ourselves and our loved ones. Use your weapon - the Word of God - against the enemy, resist Him and the Bible tells us that he will flee.
