Fan Into Flame The Gift Of God

READ:   2 Timothy 1:6-7  For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.   For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

Timothy in the Bible was a young man in age, but he had a gift and calling on his life.  Sometimes he would be held back by his feeling of inadequacy when it came to ministering to people older than him.

I have seen many young people who God has placed gifts on their lives and as older Christians we would do well to encourage them, and take their advice and counsel from them (just as we would a seasoned saint).  We should never discredit someone because they are young.

Paul had encouraged Timothy to FAN INTO FLAME the gift of God that was on his life.    He reminded him that the power of God was inside of him and because of that he was not to be timid but walk in the strength and power of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Maybe you are a young person and God has placed an incredible gift on you - and you are to use that gift for His Glory.    Today is about encouraging you to STEP OUT IN FAITH and use that talent/gift for Him.    He placed it there and entrusts you to use it for Him.

Maybe you are an older Christian - find a young person to encourage, as Paul did Timothy.  Someone that you can mentor, pray for, help them to grow up in Christ, recognize their talents and giftings and begin to FAN THEM INTO FLAMES.

When my sons were young we went to a church where they matched an elderly person with a child and appointed them as their "prayer warrior".    Austin, was matched with a lady named Doris.  Doris took the appointment very seriously and to this day, even though we have since moved to another church, and Austin is nearly 18-years-old, she still sends him cards telling him how much she prays for him.   I believe that a big part of the reason he is walking so closely with Jesus is because of Doris' prayers since he was a toddler.

** Spend some time in prayer today - asking God who you can encourage, who you can connect with and help to come along side of in prayer, love and encouragement.  Young and old we work for the same Kingdom.   We serve the same God.    All have gifts and talents, but they need recognized and FANNED INTO FLAMES!!   Let's help each other to walk in the power, love and self-discipline that is inside of us believers through Christ Jesus!   Amen!
