READ: Daniel 3:12 - 17 "But there are some Jews -- Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego - whom you have put in charge of the province of Babylon. They pay no attention to you, Your Majesty. They refuse to serve your gods and do not worship the gold statue you have set up."
Then Nebuchadnezzar flew into a rage and order that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, be brought before him. When they were brought in, Nebuchadnezzar said to them, "Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you refuse to serve my gods or to worship the gold statue I have set up? I will give you one more chance to bow down and worship the state I have made when you hear the sound of the musical instruments. But if you refuse, you will be thrown immediately into the blazing furnace. And then what god will be able to rescue you from my power?"
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. But even if he doesn't we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up."
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego are three Hebrew men who found themselves thrown into a fiery furnace by Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, when they refused to bow down to the king's image.
I absolutely LOVE this scripture. I love the fact that these three men were willing to lay down their lives for God. They had such a confidence in God .... they spoke with asurity of what their God would do! I can just see the entire providence of Babylon bowing down to the statue.... but these three men wouldn't! The Word of God tells us BUT THERE WERE SOME JEWS or BUT THERE WERE THREE MEN or BUT THERE WAS SHADRACH, MESHACH, and ABEDNEGO. So the people could go one way - BUT - not the true men of God.
God is looking for people in this world today who are the BUT'S. The world may feel at times like it's falling apart, and like there is sin, crime, and rebellion all around us - and God is looking for the ONE who he can say: "BUT Melissa or BUT _________ (your name) will stand for me no matter what.
Today ask yourself if you are the BUT _____. Are you THE ONE who will say - I won't join the crowd, I won't bow down like everyone else? No matter what I face the God whom I serve IS ABLE TO SAVE ME. He WILL rescue me. And - even if he doesn't, I will never bow down or serve any other god. My God has my allegiance. I'll stand in the world as a BUT ________ (Melissa/your name).
