READ: Ezra 7: 6, 10 Ezra was a scribe who was well versed in the Law of Moses, which the Lord, the God of Israel, had given to the people of Israel. He came up to Jerusalem from Babylon, and the king gave him everything he asked for, because the gracious hand of the Lord his God was on him.
This was because Ezra had determined to study and obey the Law of the Lord and to teach those decrees and regulations to the people of Israel.
Ezra was a Jewish scribe and a priest who lived during the reign of King Artaxerxes (Persia). The Bible tells us that the hand of the Lord was upon him or that he had the favor of the God of Israel upon him.
If you are like me, certainly you would desire the favor of the Lord upon you as well. So anytime that I read those words in the Bible - I want to read further, between the lines, to see what made Ezra (or that particular person) so special that the Lord found FAVOR with them.
The Bible tells us in verse 10 that this was because Ezra had:
DETERMINED TO STUDY AND
OBEY THE LAW OF THE LORD.
When we determine to do something - we set our minds, our time, and our hearts to it. This means that Ezra put aside other things I'm sure just to make time to study and learn the Word of God.
Not just to read it but to study it!
Now the tough question: How about you? Are you purposing your heart and time to study God's word? I know how life can be so busy. We can have good intentions and before we know it the day slips away and it's gone and we are too tired to stay awake and read and study. But if we want to GROW in our relationship with the LORD and if we want the FAVOR of THE LORD to be upon us - we need to make this a top priority in our life.... starting.... well .... now!
Dear Jesus - I want to read your word, study your word, and know you better. I want to walk in a closer relationship with you and I know that that means I need to spend time with you and in your word. Help me Jesus to be able to put aside all the things that hinder me, help me to free up my schedule and make time just to be with you and in your word. I want to grow closer to you each day than I was the day before. I love you Jesus, Amen!
