READ: 2 Chronicles 20: 20-22 So they rose early in the morning and went out into the Wilderness of Tekoa; and as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.” And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the Lord, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying:
“Praise the Lord, For His mercy endures forever.”
Now when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated.
King Jehoshaphat, the fourth king of Judah, was facing a dire circumstance. He needed the wisdom of God because multiple armies were coming after Judah and the circumstance looked dreadful. He gathered the nation together and they prayed and praised God for who He was. 2 Chronicles 20:12 "O our God, won’t you stop them? We are powerless against this mighty army that is about to attack us. We do not know what to do, but we are looking to you for help.” King Jehoshaphat KNEW that God could help. He called out to him for wisdom and deliverance.
Then Jehoshaphat did a strange thing.... as his army was marching out to battle he positioned singers who would sing praises to God ON THE FRONT LINES. If our country was going to war and President Trump ordered worshippers to go on the front lines and sing praises - I'm pretty sure the news would have a field day with that and we, the American people, would think he was utterly crazed out of his mind! But King Jehoshaphat knew the power of praise. He knew that PRAISE can position yourself for a miracle. A miracle happened too because the other armies killed each other and the army of Judah didn't even have to lift a finger!!
When we are facing a dire circumstance we may not feel like praising, but that is exactly what we should do. PRAISE can actually position us to receive the very miracle we are asking for. Are you expecting a miracle..... PRAISE THE HOLY NAME OF JESUS!!
Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name. Hebrews 13:15
